I just returned from a week-long Mermaid Retreat with thirteen other women on the mystical, magical Garden Island of Kaua’i. I hadn’t been there since 2001, so it was a real treat to go back, this time in the company of a group of women–most of whom I didn’t know–all of whom became sisters within hours. Several of them are Hoop Girl Instructors, so it was wonderful to be able to talk about experiences teaching and promoting hoop dance and spreading the hoop joy.
This picture was taken just minutes after I arrived at the beautiful beach house where our retreat was held, in Anahola. After all those hours on a plane the first thing I did was to grab my hoop and do a little celebration dance. Our time was so full that I hate to admit my hoop sat propped against the wall more than I’d have liked. We did make time for an impromptu hoop jam one afternoon. There is no sweeter place for hooping than by the ocean in Hawaii. Next time I swear I will get out my video camera and bring a little of that Hoop Dance Aloha back to share with you.
