One of the new hoopers in my class this morning asked me if I was a natural dancer. I laughed and told her, “Definitely not.” I’ve taken a lot of dance classes in the past dozen years, from ballroom to belly dance, salsa to swing, Zumba to Nia. I took the classes but the classes never really ‘took’. Even Nia, which I adore and continue to take on a regular basis doesn’t really come easily or naturally to me.
And then a year ago I entered the hoop and my dance-ability finally began to emerge from the depths of my swirling, twirling, dancing soul. Some magic of music, hoop, rhythm and beat converged around and within me and I was dancing.
