I did a presentation on Goddess Hoop Dance at the June 30th meeting of The Goddess Collective, led by the beautiful and inspiring Marta Maria Marraccini, in Oakland. It was the first time I had spoken to any group about this new business about which I am so passionate. It was wonderful to be able to share a little of the story of what brought me to be hooping in front of them.
It was a search for a book on the Goddess that led me to Christabel Zamor’s fabulous book Hooping: A Revolutionary Fitness Program (Book & DVD) (newly available at a bargain price!). It would be many months before I realized what had actually happened. I sometimes still have to pinch myself when I stop to think about the fact that I have been able to create a vehicle through which the Goddess and Hoop Dance could come together in such a joyful and organic way.
Public speaking has historically been beyond challenging for me. I love to share ideas in small groups or one-on-one but when I have had to speak to more than a few people I’ve been prone to freeze up, leave my body and completely forget what I wanted to say. The other night, hooping as I spoke, in the center of a circle of generous and kind-spirited women was a very different experience. I was right there with them, thrilled to be able to share a bit of my journey into the sacred center of the hoop. The words came pouring out of me and I could feel that they were well received. The presence of the Goddess was radiating from everyone in that room. And magically, I knew I was right where I belonged.
If you are in the Bay Area, The Goddess Collective holds meetings the last Wednesday of each month. If not, and you’d like to join this fabulous group check out The Goddess Collective on Facebook to connect with over 3,000 Goddesses. See you there!
