Yesterday, on the fourth anniversary of the first Goddess Hoop Dance class, I was outside doing a practice session with my music on Shuffle and the song Brazil, by Johnny Mathis, came on. It felt like such a celebration that I grabbed my camera and recorded this. The hoop was large, the space was small, the eaves were low, the branches too close, but the sun was shining over my shoulder, my heart was full of joy and this, to me, is what hoop dance is all about.
I often use a large beginner size hoop when I start my hoop practice sessions. I love to play with the weight of it and it reminds me what new students are experiencing, before moving on to use the smaller, lighter hoops that allow for faster, sometimes more graceful hoop dance. Every hoop is good for something and it’s always good to get back into beginner mind and back to basics to strengthen the foundation of one’s skills and ease of flow.
