I met Luci (I’m still not sure whether she spells her name with an i or a y…) while hooping on San Souci Beach in Hawaii, when I was there on vacation. She was already hooked on hooping before I met her, which is my favorite kind of student… slightly obsessed and determined. 😉
She had seen me hooping from way down the beach on the first morning I’d taken my hoops out to the beach. I held out my second hoop in offering and she came running to join me, grinning from ear to ear. She told me her name is Luci and she and her family are from Sydney. We would all be staying for another week so she and I met up a few times to hoop together and work on some new moves.
Luci’s mom came and sat watching us that first morning. She hooped for a moment or two and settled in to taking photos and videos. We all hit it off from the start. The next day, we met on the beach, again. Kathy said Luci had been talking about little else since our impromptu class. I told her there are a lot of us who have fallen in love with the hoop and what we can do with it.
We hooped together as many mornings as we could. The video is just a few clips of our time together. Every time I watch it I smile.
I gave Luci that black and silver hoop to take back to Sydney with her the day before we left to come home. It makes me happy to think of her hooping in Australia, half a world away, her beautiful face all lit up with hoop joy.
Hooping with Luci was definitely one of the great unexpected pleasures of my vacation. Hoops allow us to connect with people we would otherwise never have an opportunity to meet. They open doors and break down barriers and facilitate heart connections that spread sunshine across oceans.
Luci is but one of so many people who have come into my world by way of the hoop and graced my life with their beauty and kindness. If you want to expand your community, go forth and hoop. Being in the hoop changes our energy field and softens our defenses. We are more attractive to those who are like us when we are open and relaxed. The joys of hooping are countless. The longer I hoop the more goodness and grace flow to me and through me.
If you are just starting to hoop, I encourage you to keep at it. If you haven’t picked it up in a while, there will never be a better time than today to get back into the sacred circle.
And Luci, I hope you are having a good time with your hoop! I had so much fun meeting you and getting to know you. I look forward to the day that we get to hoop together again.
