Happy Anniversary, Goddess Hoop Dance

This picture was actually taken on my birthday last year but the feeling of joy and celebration and thanksgiving I’m feeling today for all that I have gained since April 3, 2010, when Goddess Hoop Dance officially launched with the first series of classes is reflected in the picture.

This one was taken just a week or two before the first class. I was so excited about teaching hoop dance. I knew I had a lot to learn myself but I was head over heels for the hoop and that trumped any nervousness or anxiety that threatened to put a damper on my passion.

And like Miss Ecstacy in the art on my wall, I was thrilled to share what I’d experienced and learned with other women who wanted to feel better in their skin and enjoy getting into shape and staying that way. If I could get my abs back I was pretty sure anyone else who was willing to put in some time in the hoop could transform her body, as well. And they did!

Rather than letting the fact that I had been on the planet at least a couple of decades longer than most of the hoop dancers I’d met deter me, it became my anthem. If I can do this, you can definitely do this! It is not too late and you are not too old, and even if you couldn’t do this as a kid (I don’t remember being much good at it then) you can do it now if you choose to do it. Even then I was convinced that anyone who really wants to hoop can do so. And if they practice they will soon be able to hoop dance. And then their body will start to change for the better. But even before that, they will start to stand taller and feel better and be in a better mood and they will smile more. I’ve seen it happen over and over and over in the past year.

So many amazing things have happened since Goddess Hoop Dance was launched just one short year ago. It’s hard to imagine what my life would be like without it. I have met some truly beautiful people, hooped with some of the best in the business, shown women how to reconnect with their bodies and find their rhythm and find themselves in the hoop. I’ve been awed by the joy on the faces of students who suddenly get a new move or discover something about themselves by way of the hoop.

I feel so blessed to have found hoop dance and to have the opportunity to teach and spread the hoop joy. Goddess Hoop Dance is just getting started. I can hardly wait to see where it goes in the year to come.

To all of you who have taken Goddess Hoop Dance classes and bought your first hoops from me, I am so grateful! Thank you for gracing my life with your presence and for your willingness to try something new… something that maybe put you on your growth edge and pushed you to learn something new.
